Alpha Layers
You can add Alpha Layers to the Roto Layer List using the +Alpha button on the Roto panel. Mask ML does this automatically; alpha layers are how Mask ML delivers its results to the rest of SynthEyes. Mask ML may generate multiple layers, one corresponding to each tracked area.
To add an alpha layer manually, perhaps one generated from a different program, click +Alpha, then select the image that corresponds to the very first frame of
the shot, not the first frame you’re actually using. If the main shot is a sequence, the frame numbers should match between the alpha images and the images’ frame number. When the shot is a movie, the alpha images should start with 0 or 1, matching the “First Frame is 1” value in the IMAGE INPUT section of the preferences.
Monochrome PNG files should give the best performance.
For alpha sequences that exist only for a limited part of the shot, place a dummy or duplicate image at the location corresponding to the start of the shot, as a placeholder. You can animate the layer’s Enable track (stoplight icon) to indicate the useful frames.
You can see and change the images for a specific layer by selecting it and shift- clicking the +Alpha button.
